Prevention from disease is dependent on Glutathione (GSH) which is a very essential protein for your body. Your body’s health and your life are dependent on this small protein.

Glutathione prevents your body’s cells from disintegrating due to oxidation. If the body is unable to produce enough of this protein, your liver is unable to remove bacteria and viruses which leave you very susceptible to disease, so glutathione is vital to the prevention of disease.

Every cell in the body must produce its own supply of glutathione. In order to do that it must have all the necessary materials to do so. See prevention to find out more about your body's Master Anti-oxidant.

Glutathione is in very high demand as it is consumed very quickly when we experience pressure of any sort. Many of the causes of glutathione depletion are shown in the figure below.

The role of glutathione in the body is threefold. It’s called AID
  • Antioxidant
  • Immune System
  • Detoxification

Glutathione drives these three critical processes.

The body manufactures its own natural antioxidants; glutathione is the most important – scientists call it the “Master Antioxidant”.

Researchers have explored the value of antioxidants, over many years, as being crucial to good health as well as prevention of disease. Disease occurs due to the oxidative attacks by free radicals. All sorts of illnesses have been brought about by free radicals, diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, aging and cancer.

Some well-recognized antioxidants that are widely used to destroy free radicals are vitamins C and E and selenium. These do not occur naturally in the body but have to be supplied through a balanced diet.

The body manufactures its own antioxidants and the chief among these is glutathione. All other antioxidants must have the presence of glutathione to function properly, hence the term “master antioxidant”.

To attack identified invaders such as germs and cancer cells is the function of the immune system. A high level of glutathione in the body can prevent illness from attacks by invaders by not allowing them a foothold and those that do get through will be confronted by a strong immune system.

Glutathione has a leading role in the function of the immune system. Dr. Gustavo Bounous, a leading glutathione expert, says, “The limiting factor in the proper activity of our lymphocytes (white blood cells) is the availability of glutathione.”

Healthy immune cells depend on the availability of glutathione as “food” for the immune system and aid in the prevention of disease.

Unavoidable in our modern world is the ingestion and inhalation of all sorts of toxins, both natural and synthetic. The body is capable of protecting itself by eliminating these toxins when and if it has the nourishment it needs to maintain good health.

The problem with our modern environment is that our system is forced to contend with increasing pollution levels every day. This decreases more and more rapidly our supply of glutathione in the body.

The liver is the main organ of detoxification as well as having the largest source of glutathione. So it stands to reason that low levels of glutathione make for poor liver function.

This in turn allows more and more toxins to enter the body, thus creating extensive damage to individual cells and all of the organs.

Consequently the body's job of preventing disease is much, much harder. Glutathione-promoting drugs are used routinely by doctors to detoxify certain types of drug overdose.
